Biography of  
Senator James Farley of California 

“Sen. James T. Farley of Jackson, Amador Co., CA.  Democrat.  Attended the common schools; moved when quite young to Missouri and then to California in 1850 and settled in Jackson; studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1854 and commenced practice in Amador County.  Served in Calif. Senate from 1869-1876,  Served in the US Senate from 4 Mar. 1876 to 3 Mar. 1885;  was not a candidate for renomination in 1884.  Resumed the practice of law;  Died in Jackson, Amador, CA 22 Jan. 1886.  Interment at the City Cemetery.”
