Rev. John Gray, D. D., was born in the county of Monaghan, Ireland, in December 1798.  He pursued his studies at the University of Glasgow, and subsequently studied theology under the distinguished Dr. John Dick.  In 1820 he came to America, and for some time preached in the province of New Brunswick; he came to Easton in 1822, and became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, and continued to minister to this congregation till 1867--a period of nearly forty-five years. He died January 12th, 1868. Dr. Gray was a warm friend of the college, and for thirteen years served as a trustee. He was an able theologian and a scholar of varied culture.
