Rev. James Hall Mason Knox, D. D;, LL. D., was born in New York City. His father, Rev. Dr. John Knox, was for more than forty years senior pastor of the
Collegiate Reformed Dutch Church of that city, and his mother was the eldest daughter
of the Rev. Dr. John M. Mason. He graduated at Columbia College in 1841, and then
took a full course of Theological study in the Seminary of the Reformed Dutch Church
at New Brunswick, N. J. He was pastor of the Presbyterian Church in German
Valley, N. J ., for five years, when he was called to Easton, to assume the charge of the
newly organized Reformed Dutch Church, where he remained two years. He was then called to Germantown, where he was for sixteen years pastor or the First
Presbyterian Church. whence he was transferred to Bristol, where his pastorate of ten years
was terminated by his call to the Presidency of Lafayette. He has been connected
with many of the boards and committees of the church. He received from his Alma Mater the degree of D. D. in 1861, and LL. D. in 1885.
