SYKES, JACOB, from Connecticut, 1782, settled on the
present homestead of Wilson Clark. Several brothers came with him who
settled in Dorset, where their descendants are numerous. He was a
substantial thrifty farmer. His wife died in 1816, aged 59, when he
married the widow of William Stevens. Of his family we know but little.
One daughter m. Jared Francis, of Wells; his son Jacob married Minerva Goodspeed,
and died in 1836, aged 36, leaving a large family. She is now the wife of
Samuel Wood. Mr. Sykes died in 1843, aged 83.
