Paul P. Urbanik was born in Zdziary, Poland January 13, 1883. Due
probably to excitement, he gave 1884 as his birth-year on the
Declaration of Intention and his Petition for Natualization.
Paul’s father was Ludwig Urbanik. Paul’s mother was Marianna
Marzarz. Pawel, the polish spelling, was one of eight children born to
Marianna. Five died in birth or lived only a short time. We do not know
where their graves are located. The parents graves are located in the
Catholic cemetery in Domostawa, Poland. During my (Bernard Sadowski,
gson) visit to Poland in June 2001, I saw his parent’s gravesites and
I examined the home he was born in! It is still standing.
Paul immigrated to USA with his brother Walenty arriving on The
PATRICIA in New York on May 14, 1904. He came to America to save money
to send back to Zdziary in order to bring his fiance’ Ewa Sielmouska
so they could marry. Other people in Poland spent the hard-earned money
so his future bride had to earn her own monies to travel to America
Paul was not a well person, suffering from ailments which forced him
to quit his factory job at General Mortors in Flint, Michigan. He died
in June1944. His casket was set up for the 3 day wake in the very home
he constructed on Tilden Street. I can recall being there and inteacting
with the family - I was five years old at the time. Paul P. Urbanik was
buried in the family plot at the old All Saints Cemetery, Flint,
Michigan.
