Cyrus Augustus Johnson 

Born May 11, 1839, in Middletown, Conn.  United with the Baptist Church in Middletown in 1854. 
   

 

1865-68, Studied in Union Theological Seminary, New York, N.Y.

1868, B.D. from same.

1866, Supplied Second Baptist Church, East Brooklyn, N.Y.

1868-69, Pastor of Baptist Church, Cohoes, N.Y.

1870, Traveling in Europe and the East.

1871-73, Pastor of Baptist Church, Whitehall, N.Y.

1874-77, Pastor of Baptist Church, Greenwich, N.Y.

1878-81, Pastor of Baptist Church, Granville, N.Y.

1882-98, Pastor of Baptist Church, Batavia, N.Y.  At present Pastor Emeritus, of First Baptist Church, Batavia, N.Y.  During pastorate here a stone church was built, costing $45,000.  Church membership three times as large, church property seven times as valuable, as at commencement of pastorate in 1882.  Was presented last spring by church and community with a large silver, loving cup, containing five hundred dollars.

Married, April 9, 1872, Miss Sarah Scott, of Vergennes, Vt.

Children:  Bertha, born June 23, 1873.  Married Herbert Woodward, who died in 1901.

Lester, born Dec. 24, 1874; died in 1904.

Married again, in November, 1885, to Mrs. Anna Elderkin Potter, who was born and brought up in Middletown, Conn.
