Biography of
 

Charles DeWitt Marcy

Born Oct. 24, 1842, in Greenfield, Mass.  Son of Rev. Ichobod Marcy, Wesleyan, Class of 1839, member of New England Conference.  Prepared for college at Wesleyan Academy, Wilbraham, Mass.  In September, 1862, left college to enlist in 43d Mass. Regiment.  Re-entered college, Class of '66, in fall of 1863.
   

 

In April, 1864, re-enlisted in the Signal Corps, U,S,A.  Served to the close of the war.

1865-66, Teaching at Cook County, Ill.

1867- , Engaged in directory business in connection with Sampson, Davenport & Co., publishers, Boston, Mass.  Became member of the firm in 1883.

1905, Treasurer of Sampson & Murdock Co., publishers, Boston; also Secretary Drew Allis Co., publishers, Worcester, Mass. and Rochester, N.Y.

Married, June 25, 1873, Miss Sophia A. Hilliker, of Lynn, Mass.

Children:  Annie M., born Aug. 20, 1876.  Graduate of Smith College, Class of 1899, married Rev. Charles M. Crooks.

Harriet M., born Sept. 25, 1881.  Graduate of Mt. Holyoke College, Class of 1903.

Grosvenor DeWitt, born Oct. 8, 1883.  Graduate of Mass. Institute of Technology, Class of 1905.
