Biography of
 

Samuel Edmond Nichols

Born, Feb. 17, 1842, in Brookfield, Worcester County, Mass.  (Brother of Lucius Seneca Nichols, Wesleyan, Class of '64).  Left college in Freshman year (March, 1862).
   

 

1865, Studied one term in Amherst College.

1862-5, Lieutenant and Adjutant in the 37th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteers.  Military Commandant in Leicester Academy.

1866-7, Proprietor and editor of Pittsfield Sun.

1868-81, Dealer in books, music and stationery, Pittsfield, Mass.

1882-93, Editor of Buffalo Times, Buffalo, N.Y.

1894-98, United States Pension Agent for Western New York.  Appointed by President Cleveland.

Died April 29, 1898, at Buffalo, N.Y.

1766, Married, Orpha S. Clark, of Northampton, Mass.

Children:  Walter Clark, Florence Mabel, Edith Sterling.

Walter, graduate of Harvard, Class of '93, died, aged 25.

Florence Mabel, married Oct. 30, 1901, James Sturgis Pray, Assistant Professor at Harvard University.

Address of widow:  15 Trowbridge Street, Cambridge, Mass.
