Commenced teaching when seventeen years of age.
Taught at Newark, Lyndon, Sutton, Bradford, and Burke, Vt. Entered
Wesleyan University in 1861, and graduated in 1865.
1866, Principal of public school, Acton, Indiana; also teacher of private
school in Harrison County, Ky.
1867, principal of public school at Garrison's, N.Y.
1868, Classical teacher in Rectory School for boys,
Saybrook, Conn.
1869-70, Studied medicine in Burlington, Vt., and Boston, Mass. Took
Degree of M. D. in Burlington, Vt.
From 1870 till present time engaged in the practice of medicine.
Practiced medicine in Wauregan, Conn., Weston, Waterford and Burke, Vt.
Made cancer study a specialty. Called away long distances in special
cases. Never refuses to doctor the poor.
In 1895, while visiting a patient forty miles from home, house destroyed by
fire, losing furniture, library, everything. Has had some hard reverses,
but believes in bearing bravely whatever comes, and doing good all the
time.
Married, Aug. 18, 1872, Mary Ella Clark, of Chester, Vt. Died in 1892.
Children: Four. Nellie, Clarence, Philip,
Luvia. Two
youngest live at home.
