FELCH was the son of Joseph Felch, of Newburyport, Massachusetts, born May 26,
1837. He entered our Class in the autumn of 1859, and was with us during the four
years of college life. He was a member of the 'Logian Literary Society and served as
treasurer; a member of the Adelphic Union, and on its board of officers as secretary,
1862-63; a member of Mills Society, and of the Lyceum of Natural History; a member of
the committee on songs at the Biennial Celebration; had an English oration in Junior
exhibition; and received an appointment on the Commencement program.
After leaving college, Felch studied theology at the Theological Seminary, Princeton,
New Jersey, graduating in 1866. In June, 1867, he was installed pastor having been
previously ordained to the ministry by a New York Presbytery in 1865 of the Congregational church in
Cummington, Massachusetts, the birthplace of William Cullen
Bryant, who for a brief time was a student in our college. Bryant had a summer home in
his native town and was one of our classmate's parishioners. Felch remained in Cummington until his death in January, 1870. He won the warm personal friendship of
his people. The last time he entered the sanctuary he was borne in a chair and administered the sacrament to his people. He never married.
